Welcome to the Lower Mississippi River Watershed Management Organization!
A joint powers agreement was executed on October 25, 1985, which established and empowered the
Lower Mississippi River Watershed Management Organization (LMRWMO). The LMRWMO was
formed in response to the requirements of the Metropolitan Surface Water Management Act
(“Chapter 509,” now recodified to Minnesota Statutes 103B). The Act required, among other things,
the preparation of watershed management plans in the Minneapolis-St. Paul Metropolitan area. The Minnesota
Board of Water and Soil Resources, which has final approval authority for WMO plans, formally
approved the LMRWMO Watershed Management Plan on July 26, 1989.
The LMRWMO provides a valuable forum for the member cities to evaluate and resolve
drainage issues within the watershed.
